Light Dweller - The Subjugate

Light Dweller hawk eccentric, esoteric, sludgy-progressive-death that is unexpected in entirely welcomed ways.  Perhaps that mythical beast known as "atmospheric death metal"?  Warning: here be electronics.  Don't let it give you pause; The Subjugate is well worth the trip to the edge of the map.

Sprawling compositional dynamics ensure replay value and abject awe.  Heaviness is conveyed via bass and bombast less than searing guitar tone.  Weird, dominant chord arpeggiations convey shadows and light, oft with Mastodonic verve. There's clean dissonance, shining chromatic dragons, and perhaps a dab of Akercocke? Vertebra warping riffs would make Luc Lemay's fanny pack fall right the fuck off. Lead lines even channel empyrean dreams of Mary Friedman.

Yes, some of the drums are programmed.  Maybe all of them?  A real drummer would probably be able to tell.  I certainly don't care.  Sometimes said beats break off into inhuman spasms of hyperspeed.  Here and there synths throw in addictive, eidetic phrases and deep-space atmospherics.  This all feeds the ravenous ambition nicely.  We're not talking about the glitchy-jank Earache was trying to peddle in the aughts. The Subjugate will stick to your ribs and your playlist.
